Milton
Erickson was a Psychiatrist who practised
hypnotherapy extensively from the 1920's
until his death in 1987. Ericksonian
hypnosis is characterised by indirect
suggestion, often communicating in
metaphor instead of the more traditional
approach to hypnosis which is
authoritarian in nature.
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)
is a technique developed in the 1970's by
John Grinder and Richard Bandler which
stems from much of Erickson's work. It
can be used on it's own or more
effectively with hypnosis for personal
development, therapy (phobias in
particular), sport enhancement, business
performance and increased learning and
memory. In therapy, NLP techniques can
help to replace negative associations and
feelings with more positive ones.
